Astanda Directory Project [ADP] is a directory, search engine, and spider/crawler software. ADP is the only software in its class ever to be written in PHP with MySQL database support. What you see above is a user front end demo set with default ADP template. Feel free to test out the features, add some links, and post a message in the forum if you find any bugs or have any suggestions.
ADP is a LAMP -type of software with minimum software requirements:
- Linux operating system
- Apache web server 1.3.37 +
- MySQL 4.1.21 +
- PHP 4.4.3 + with sockets enabled
Main features are:
- Supports virtually unlimited number of links and pages without any loss of performance.
- Fast web spider crawls any given URL, follows links within, and records site information to the database.
- Extremely fast proper FULLTEXT search with keyword relevance support.
- No PHP/MySQL knowledge required to install & operate ADP.
- Web-based Admin area that helps manage ADP.
- Admin area is protected with encrypted passwords and .htaccess/.htpasswd files.
- ADP templates are fully customizable with Smarty template engine.
- ADP is search engine friendly.
- Users can suggest URLs to directory.
- Admin can add, delete, modify, and ban any URL.
- Unlimited sub/categories with proper SEO structure.
- Every category in ADP has its own editable title, description, keywords, and web path.
- Category names support any odd and non alpha-numeric characters like: ~!@#$%^&*()_+-=|\;:"'\|?/.>,<
- ADP supports any language that MySQL can support. Thats basically any language in the world.
- Web links information can be either automatically fetched or manually edited.
- Any link can be set to be in/visible to the public.
- Proper recip link checking.
- Google Page Rank support.
- Mod Rewrite for SEO friendly pages.
- Link validation.
- IP, Domain, URL string, and Keyword banning.
- Compatable with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera.
- Reciprocal links can be required (optional).
- Set links per page.
- Open links in new window (optional).
- Easily move and/or rename links, pages, and categories.
- Boolean searches:
- apple banana
Find results that contain at least one of the two words.
- +apple +juice
Find results that contain both words.
- +apple macintosh
Find results that contain the word “apple”, but rank results higher if they also contain “macintosh”.
- +apple -macintosh
Find results that contain the word “apple” but not “macintosh”.
- +apple ~macintosh
Find results that contain the word “apple”, but if the results also contains the word “macintosh”, rate it lower than if results does not. This is “softer” than a search for +apple -macintosh, for which the presence of “macintosh” causes the results not to be returned at all.
- +apple +(>turnover <strudel)
Find results that contain the words “apple” and “turnover”, or “apple” and “strudel” (in any order), but rank “apple turnover” higher than “apple strudel”.
- apple*
Find results that contain words such as “apple”, “apples”, “applesauce”, or “applet”.
- "some words"
Find results that contain the exact phrase “some words” (for example, results that contain “some words of wisdom” but not “some noise words”). Note that the ‘"’ characters that enclose the phrase are operator characters that delimit the phrase. They are not the quotes that enclose the search string itself.
Admin area Demo v.1.2b
News & updates:
- 24.11.2006 - Optimized spider script and few admin functions. Finally finished the "Install/Upgrade ADP" script, and will hopefully release the updated ADP v.1.2 tomorrow. Visit the forums if you have any "last-minute" wishes for the upcoming ADP 1.2.
- 22.11.2006 - Added few requested features, and fixed few minor bugs in Admin area. Also, removed `pages` table optimization and couple of useless regular expressions from spider to speed up the crawling process.
- 20.11.2006 - ADP v.1.1 beta is available for download. This includes a little bug fix reported by luvpuppy.
- 19.11.2006 - ADP v.1.0 beta is available for download.
- 15.11.2006 - Fixed Boolean Full-Text Searches. See (above) features for usage explanation, or click here for MySQL docs on this subject.
- 14.11.2006 - Cleaned up Admin area and Spider code for best performance. Made few Spider options to be configurable from Admin area.
- 13.11.2006 - Completely dumped fopen() for fsockopen() functions. Fixed problems with spider that could not follow server multiple-redirected pages. Fixed internal admin area bugs, that were causing slow performance.
- 11.11.2006 - Finished some major updates in Admin area. Fixed Spider to recognize banned URLs and Keywords in content. Spider can now optionally crawl the web without admin interaction.
- 03.11.2006 - Fixed Google PR and recip link check for both links and pages.
- 31.10.2006 - Fixed Admin area links/pages/categories pagination and sorting problems.
- 29.10.2006 - Fixed search engine highlight and overall pagination problems.
- 22.10.2006 - Completely rewrote web spider.
- 14.10.2006 - Fixed category display bug.
- 11.10.2006 - addurl.php script was added to accept URLs from users.
- 05.10.2006 - A major security update with Register Globals.
- 01.10.2006 - Public release date is not set yet.
